THE MANIFESTO OF CONSTRUCTIVE UNREALISM
THE MOTTO
"Constructive Unrealism" or "Paradox Constructivism" is a contemporary intellectual movement, art workshop, and creative community founded in 2020 by Tibor Babos.
Central to Constructive Unrealism is a profound philosophical inquiry captured by the motto: "All imaginable is real, and not all realities are imaginable".
This movement ventures beyond the boundaries of the known into the realms of the unknown, aiming to envision and bring into existence what has yet to be realized.
Its primary form of expression is the creative arts, drawing inspiration from idealist, realist, constructivist, and minimalist traditions.
The PHILOSOPHY
The philosophical essence of the statement "all imaginable is real" suggests that every product of human imagination holds a form of reality. Human endeavors and tangible creations—whether noble or malevolent—originate from the contemplation and realization of ideas. This concept underpins the emergence of spiritual movements, artistic masterpieces, scientific breakthroughs, and social constructs, as well as the darker aspects of secret sects, wars, and destruction. Constructive Unrealism meticulously investigates the origins of ideas, their paths, and their ultimate outcomes.
Conversely, the phrase "not all realities are imaginable" underscores the limitations of the human mind. Despite being part of the universe, the human intellect cannot fully comprehend its entirety or its myriad details. Our existence is marked by an inherent unknowability, constrained by both external and internal limitations that allow only fleeting and partial understandings. Paradoxically, the pursuit of greater knowledge always highlights the vast expanse of the unknown and the transient nature of our current insights. Constructive Unrealism is dedicated to exploring these enigmatic realms, continuously questioning established knowledge and seeking new evidence in all phenomena.
EARLY INFLUENCES
Hungarian scientist József Eötvös (1813-1871) articulated a similar perspective:
"There are two things we will never completely understand: the universe and ourselves. All attainable science lies between these two, and this is precisely why we cannot find complete peace in science. Every serious thought leads us to question the relationship of our object of inquiry to the whole and to ourselves, and thus all our science ends in doubt or faith."
Constructive Unrealism embraces doubt as a foundational principle, viewing it as essential to the intellectual and creative process.
THE CREDO
The credo of Constructive Unrealism is: "The discovery of the infinite unknown and the pursuit of infinite discovery."
GUIDING PRINCIPLES
The guiding principle of Constructive Unrealism is that it adheres to no fixed creed, yet it remains open to accepting creeds. Constructive Unrealists hold no rigid beliefs; instead, they relentlessly seek evidence and proof for everything. Their approach prioritizes objective reality over subjective perception, constantly adjusting the subjective to align with the objective world.
The movement is driven by the metaphor of "Exploring Everest and the Everest of Exploration," symbolizing the pursuit of ever-expanding frontiers of knowledge. For Constructive Unrealists, peace of mind can only be achieved through embracing the unknown, undergoing continual transformation, and accepting a state of restlessness.
Rooted in the laws of universal nature, Constructive Unrealism acknowledges that human knowledge is merely a part of this greater whole and is subject to constant re-evaluation. Its mission is to shape, create, and manifest reality in accordance with its principles and values, continuously reshaping the known in light of the unknown.
